The film Els dies que vindran (The days that will come) from Catalan director Carlos Marqués Marcet has triumphed at the 22nd edition of the Malaga Film Festival - the fourth year in succession that a Catalan film has won the major prize at the Malaga festival.
Marqués Marcet's romantic drama, telling the story of a pregnancy, was awarded the Golden Biznaga for the best Spanish film, a prize worth 12,000 euros, the Silver Biznaga for best direction and a further Silver Biznaga for best actress, won by María Rodríguez Soto. It also won the festival's Young Jury Prize for best feature.
Meanwhile, Catalan actor Quim Gutiérrez was awarded a Silver Biznaga for best supporting actor for Litus, and the documentary Baracoa by Pablo Briones obtained the festival's Audience Prize.
The jury for the official feature films section of this 22nd edition of the Festival was made up of Andrés Bayona, Agustina Chiarino, Patricia Ferreira, Ignacio Ruiz Capillas and Diego San José.
It's the fourth year in a row that a Catalan production has brought home the Golden Biznaga from Malaga: Les distàncies directed by Elena Trapé won last year; in 2017, Carla Simó's Estiu 1993; and Callback by Carles Torras in 2016. This year, a total of thirty Catalan productions were projected.
