For the 40th anniversary of the first broadcast in Spain of Mazinger Z, a classic anime series which spawned the mecha subgenre, the Cinesa cinema chain has decided to pay homage to the programme. This weekend, they will screen the new feature-length film Mazinger Z Infinity at 10 cinemas in Barcelona, and others around Catalonia including Mataró, Sant Cugat and Terrassa. The screenings will take place on Friday 19th, Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st January.
Mazinger Z Infinity tells the story of the last adventures of a robot created by Gou Nagai, incorporating new technology into a mythical animated series. The film takes place 10 years after the defeat of Dr Hell at the hands of Mazinger Z and pilot Koji Kabuto. After a decade of world peace, which Kabuto spent peacefully, working as a scientist, new dangers loom over the world, and even come to threaten the city of Barcelona and its Sagrada Familia cathedral. Mazinger Z will have to face these new threats and Koji Kabuto will find himself forced to get back into his robot.
