Primavera Sound Barcelona is the great event that kicks off the music festival season in the Mediterranean capital and throughout Catalonia. From last Wednesday, May 29th until Saturday June 1st, music lovers from all over the world will flocking to the the city's Parc del Fòrum to enjoy the more than 400 artists who will take to the stage over these four days and (especially) nights. Headliners such as Phoenix, Pulp, Vampire Weekend, Justice, Lana del Rey, The National, SZA, PJ Harvey, Mitski and Charli XCX are among the most acclaimed musical proposals that will keep the festivalgoers bopping on the asphalt and astroturf.
The dancing letters are back
It's already a classic: the letters of Primavera Sound turn on again and their wavy up and down motion welcomes the fans on opening day.
Opening day
The last rays of sunshine illuminate the waiting audience for the most acclaimed artists of the day: Stella Maris and Phoenix.
"Dear believer, dear follower"
Stella Maris come to Primavera Sound with a very clear mission: to make the spectators dance to the most popular songs from La Mesias, a hit series on Movistar+ in Spain.
Faithful to Stella Maris
Without a doubt, it was one of the performances that left virtually no-one indifferent, with surprises such as the appearance of Carmen Machi, Albert Pla and the Javis - actors and directors of the series.
The Phoenix arises
The opening day is closed by French poppers Phoenix.
First day of Primavera Sound
Now yes, it begins. Despite it being afternoon, the public surrenders to the first day of the festival.
Playing at home
The Catalan scene also has a place in the festival with groups such as Renaldo & Clara (below), Mujeres or Maria Hein.
A touch of love
PDAs among the festival audience, of course.
The Boiler Room, packed out
Queues to enter the festival within the festival, the Boiler Room, but the wait was worth it as the audience were treated to surprises such as an appearance by Ralphie Choo.
The Catalan Coachella
Conserving energy on the large lawn installed in front of the Estrella Damm and Santander stages.
"Typical Spanish wear"
Without a doubt, festivals are the best moments to take your best threads out of the wardrobe. The LIDL brand was among the more original proposals of the day.
With a loaf of bread under his arm
That's how your baby arrives, according to the Catalan proverb. Somebody's baby arrived like that at Primavera Sound.
The hour of the vampires
Vampire Weekend, one of the most anticipated groups of the day, along with Pulp and Justice.
Justice closes the first day of Primavera Sound 2024.
On to round two
It's Friday, thank God, and in the Parc del Fòrum the crowds are growing from early afternoon.
Dance the mazurka at Primavera Sound
Why not? If Guillem Gisbert says, we do it.
The last supper (or not)
The name does not deceive: The Last Dinner Party (UK), despite not being our last such meal (or so we hope), their concert was indeed a great party.
Keanu Reeves and his Dogstars
On the Plenitude stage, hidden from the big Primavera Sound scenarios, Keanu Reeves appears playing the bass in his group Dogstars and all eyes are on him.
Lana del Rey, queen of the night
Lana del Rey is the most anticipated artist of the night, with people lining up to be in the front rows from the moment the festival gates opened.
The National, unmissable
The National must already feel at home, because this is the fifth time they have performed on the Primavera stage since 2011. But they never fail.
A ride with Rels B
Rels B explained that being on stage at Primavera Sound was a dream come true, and it seems that it was a two-way street with the audience, as more than a few tears of emotion could be seen falling as the artist began to to sing.
Third (and final) day
Saturday and the last day of this Primavera Sound 2024. The forecast is for rain and, although the crowd is thinner than yesterday, the punters are still willing and eager.
With PJ Harvey the first drops of rain
The Brits have a reputation for being very punctual, but PJ Harvey was made to wait a few minutes under some ominous gray clouds that started to descend during the second song of the concert.
"Singing in the rain"
What initially seemed like a few drops turned into the first big xafec of the day, as they say. Of course, the public did not flinch, they took out capes and umbrellas and the beat went on.
Immersed in Mitski (and water)
It seemed that the heavens had called a truce, but when Mitski hit the stage the rain returned, and this time accompanied by lightning and thunder. The artist, however, kept the songs coming stoically and the crowd stayed with her until the end.
The clouds make way for music
With SZA's performance, the rain started to ease and the festibods who had huddled under any available shelter crawled out again like snails to continue the party.
Feel like more and more
At this point the rain seems to have moved on and the desire to continue singing and dancing is the main protagonist of the night.
The (black) Irish lioness
Róisín Murphy appeared on stage in a furry black 'outfit' and with the charisma of a lioness. In the second song, however, she went to the opposite extreme: appearing completely white. Of course, with the same energy.
Embracing the end
This year's edition is coming to an end, but the excitement and embraces still hold the audience.
'C'est fini', Primavera Sound 2024
And thus doth Primavera Sound 2024 call it a night, and it's homeward as best you can.
