The lawyers of Dani Alves, after learning on Wednesday afternoon that the Barcelona Audience had accepted the conditional release of the ex-footballer if he posted bail of one million euros, did not suspect that producing the required sum, even if it was large, would be so complicated. Today, at 2pm, the deadline for depositing the money, they had not done so. The suspicion, however, is that the Alves defence team is lengthening the deadlines to boost the sensation that it is a large sum, difficult to obtain for the former footballer, and, at the same time, to counter the theory asserted by the victim's lawyer, who asserted that there was "justice for the rich".
If the Brazilian doesn't want to transfer a cash sum, or really can't, he could also offer assets as security, as is usual for this type of bond, although in such a case, the asset value should be more than double the cash sum. According to sources consulted, he would have to offer security of 2.5 million euros in assets. Despite this, however, it should be borne in mind that this is a longer method due to the need to assess the properties or other assets presented as collateral.
Dani Alves will thus spend another night in Brians 2 prison, in Sant Esteve Sesrovires, on the outskirts of metropolitan Barcelona. The teller's window in the justice administration will open again tomorrow, Friday, from 9am to 2pm. It will be during these hours when his lawyers can make the deposit. If the million euro bail sum arrives, the former FC Barcelona defender will be able to leave prison.
Convicted of sexual assault
The Brazilian was sentenced to four years and six months in prison for having raped a 23-year-old woman in a toilet, in the VIP area of the Sutton nightclub. Because the sentence is subject to appeal and also because of the time he has already spent in prison, the defence asked for him to be released, and the court has accepted this, by a majority of two to one, subject to a bail payment of one million euros. When this is paid, and all the relevant procedures are carried out, he can leave.
Thinking that today would be that moment, dozens of journalists from Catalan and international media, waited all morning outside the gate of Brians 2 prison. If the family and Alves' defence team can marshall the required sum and hand it over on Friday, the former Barça star's release from prison would be possible on Monday.
