As expected, the workers' assembly voted to go on strike.
In this way, security guards at Barcelona El Prat-Josep Tarradellas airport will begin an indefinite strike on Friday, the 9th. This was decided by 175 votes in favor and only two against at the workers assembly held this Thursday.
Trablisa -which has a workforce of some 500 workers- will therefore go on strike as they consider the last offer made by the company insufficient: they had only agreed to pay the staff a plus in the October payroll.
In conversation with this newspaper, the adviser to the Trablisa strike committee, Juan Carlos Giménez, already explained that the strike would be almost inevitable and that the workers expected the company to make a "proposal of minimum services."
"Normal queues"
The security guards of the Prat, however, expect "normal queues" during the strike. This has been explained by Giménez himself in statements in El Matí de Catalunya Ràdio . "If there are queues it will be because there are too many travelers and because there are few filters." In addition, he has not ruled out the idea that the guards will make a "work-to-rule" as of Friday, that is, work at a slow pace as a protest. "It is a possibility," he said.
Regarding the meeting they held with the company, Giménez has reiterated that they expected a proposal of "minimums" and stressed that "this company has given us nothing." On the other hand, he also criticised that the company made a similar proposal at the beginning of the year and did not comply.
Also in statements in El Matí de Catalunya Ràdio, Trablisa's human resources director, Pilar Albacete has replied this to the advisor. "We responded to all operational questions. " And he said that workers "strike for economic reasons", since they demand a raise.
What do workers ask for?
Trablisa employees ask to be compensated for the work overload with a bonus of one Euro per hour worked, training, meet parity among workers and ensure breaks.
They also claim that the company be responsible for parking costs or enable a free zone for vehicle parking. Giménez has criticised the minimum services of 90% decreed by the Spanish government delegation in Catalonia: "What it guarantees is that there is no strike."
Minimum services of 90%
This Tuesday, the Spanish government decreed 90% of minimum services for the indefinite strike of the security and surveillance services called from this Friday, a fact that was criticised by the company committee, which has ensured that these minimum services are abusive to the point that it would be necessary to call staff who are on holidays to be able to fulfill them.
Despite the demands of the government, Giménez reiterated this week that the security guards have "every right to strike" and that to comply with the minimum services of 90% established by the Government delegation, it would be necessary to call personnel who are on leave or on vacation. Thus, he stated that this high percentage would be "difficult" to cover because there would be many staff off work.
