Barcelona-El Prat Airport will not collapse over the Christmas holidays and will work normally on 21st December, the day of the Catalan election. Today the strike committee of Iberia Barcelona has agreed with the airline's management to cancel the industrial action planned for 21st, 22nd, 23rd and 24th December.
The majority union on the committee, UGT, explained that Iberia has committed to improving staff conditions. Workers are owed more than 7000 rest hours which they could not take for lack of staff.
As such, the business and unions will continue negotiating to "avoid El Prat coming to a standstill" at a period of maximum throughflow like Christmas. In fact, the committee explains that "not all our requests have been met", but that "improvements have been achieved thanks to pressure from the workers".
