The BBC has reported from Manlleu, a small town 80 km (50 miles) north of Barcelona, on the status of Catalonia, whether it is a new country or not. The British broadcaster describes Spain as "amid its worst political crisis in decades", an issue it explores in the 5-minute report from a majority pro-independence town.
They interview a member of the CDR (Committee for the Defence of the Republic) of Manlleu called Ricard in the piece entitled "Is this really the start of a new country?" in their BBC Stories series. The CDR member says that it's difficult to describe the current political situation, after the declaration of independence and the intervention in Catalonia by the Spanish state. "We're not a clear republic, we're in an intermedium [sic] step," he says.
