With Josep Borrell gone as Spain's foreign minister and at the start of a new phase in the relationship between the governments in Madrid and Barcelona, the Catalan government has today agreed to reactivate the opening of its delegations in Argentina, Tunisia and Mexico. The High Court of Justice of Catalonia had suspended them all as a cautionary measures in response to an appeal from Borrell's ministry. The Catalan executive believes that this time it will face no challenge from the central government.
The announcement was made by spokesminister Meritxell Budó during the weekly press conference after today's cabinet meeting. The government has reissued the decrees for the three delegations and updated their roles. It means the office and delegates, nominated three months ago, can return to work.
The objective, according to Budó, is to continue working on Catalonia's international projection, "as other autonomous communities do".
