The Catalan Committees for Defence of the Republic (CDR) have called a referendum on the "constituent process" for the Catalan republic for 26th May, to coincide with the Spanish municipal elections. It's a "self-organised" referendum, so the CDRs have called on individuals and organisations to offer places for the vote to take place. Any resident in Catalonia over 16 years of age will be able to vote by presenting simply their electoral roll entry or a certificate of their registration as a resident of the town in question.
Each ballot will have three sections. The first has two questions: "Do you want the Constiuent Process for the Catalan and Aranese Republic to begin?", and, if so, whether its constitution should be written by the people, politicians or a group of experts. The second has another two questions: "Do you want mechanisms to be created to allow the people to impeach elected officials their mandates?" and "Do you want all legislative acts from the Parliament and Government to have to be ratified by the public?".
The questions for the third section are to be chosen by residents of each town or city in debates during the referendum campaign. The CDRs ask their supporters to "show their commitment to a constituent process which truly empowers the people".
