Pep Guardiola has again defended the innocence of the Catalan political prisoners on trial in Madrid. Manchester City's coach, who has repeatedly been seen wearing a yellow loop, the symbol of support for the prisoners, discussed the situation in the press conference ahead of the League Cup final this Sunday between his team and Chelsea.
"When I saw what happened a year ago, I couldn't imagine that a year later they'd still be in prison without bail. The trail is going ahead and in the last few days I've been able to see how some of our politicians have had the opportunity to give their testimony. They've demonstrated that they've been accused of crimes that they didn't really commit. I hope that the trial will show what happened and that they'll be able to return to their families. I hope they can return to their normal lives," he said.
A fortnight ago, the two teams met in the Premier League and City stormed to a 6-0 victory. On that, the Catalan coach said he "wished it hadn't happened", as now Chelsea will be particularly motivated to regain face.
