Catalan police are investigating the murder of a woman and her two young children, twins aged eight, whose bodies were found on Tuesday evening in the flat where they lived, as well as the death of the father of the family, in a tragic series of events which are now thought to be a murder-suicide in the metropolitan Barcelona town of El Prat de Llobregat. Hours before the tragedy in the apartment was discovered, a man had been found dead on the railway tracks in El Prat. Keys found on his body led the Mossos d'Esquadra police to a nearby parked car, in which a suicide note was found, "begging for forgiveness", and soon after officers made the tragic find of the three bodies at the apartment in the centre of the town. The police believe that the man, 43 years old and of Spanish nationality, took his own life after committing the triple crime at the house in Carrer Agramunt. Indications are that the victims were suffocated, with the results of the autopsies still to confirm this.
The Mossos have opened an investigation to clarify what happened and the case summary has been decreed secret. The mother was 43 years old, also of Spanish nationality, and their two twin children, a boy and a girl, were aged 8. Apparently, there were no previous complaints of violence related to the couple. The bodies were removed from the house in the small hours of this Wednesday morning.
Note found after the suicide
As ElCaso.cat can report, the man found dead on the tracks of the R2 Rodalies train line in El Prat de Llobregat threw himself in front of the train around four in the afternoon on Tuesday. At that time, the train driver saw a person jump from the station platform; he died on the spot, struck by the engine. The body could not be removed for over an hour. When the investigating officers inspected his clothing, they found the keys to a vehicle. The investigators tried the keys on cars parked in the area and managed to open one and inside, they found a note from the father explaining the events and asking for "forgiveness". The officers then located the street where he lived with his partner and two young children, and when they entered, they found the three bodies, showing signs of violence.
Five women and five children, victims of male violence in 2024
The shocking reality of male violence continues. Last week, a 27-year-old man, also of Spanish nationality, killed his 5-year-old son and tried to kill the mother, a 29-year-old woman. He allegedly stabbed them while they slept in a house in Bellcaire d'Empordà, in the north of Catalonia. The man was arrested a few hours later by the Mossos d'Esquadra. If the Prat de Llobregat case, as everything seems to indicate, is confirmed as another case of male violence, it will be the fifth femicide of this year in Catalonia. And just as terribly, the provisional death toll also includes five children, because in addition to the latest tragedy police are still investigating an incident in the Horta neighborhood of Barcelona, in which two children died.
