Spain's Supreme Court has decided to grant Dolors Bassa special permission to leave prison tomorrow to visit her mother for two hours in the hospital where she had an operation yesterday.
The court's holidays chamber, responsible for taking decisions over the summer, followed the recommendation of public prosecutors and the prison's treatment board, who were in favour of granting the request submitted by Bassa's defence counsel.
One-off, special permission
Bassa's defence, led by Mariano Bergés, presented a petition on Wednesday to the treatment board of Puig de les Basses prison and the Supreme Court for one-off, special permission to visit her mother, who had an operation yesterday.
On Twitter, Bergés, asked yesterday that, if permission were to be granted, there should be no demonstrations outside the prison to respect the former minister's privacy and allow the visit to take place without problems. "It's very important, thank you for your understanding," she wrote.
Bassa has been in the prison near Figueres, in the north of Catalonia, since 4th July. Prior to that, she had been held in Alcalá women's prison near Madrid since she was sent into pretrial detention for the second time in March.
