There are fewer than 24 hours to go until the debate to pick a new Catalan president. The candidate for the post is Quim Torra, who only turned to politics recently, due to be sworn in on Monday – if there are no last-minute surprises. After being nominated by Carles Puigdemont yesterday evening, Quim Torra is on course to become the 131st president of Catalonia. Spanish authorities haven’t voiced any objections to his bid, having already blocked three other presidential candidates from being sworn in. But Torra hasn’t been spared criticism from the anti-independence parties. The likely future head of the Catalan government had his first interview today since being chosen as candidate. In our show we’ll hear what Torra had to say and we’ll also learn a little bit more about him, a figure previously unknown to the international public, but now central to Catalan politics.
