Catalan minister Antoni Comín, in exile in Belgium, waiting to learn whether or not he will be extradited following the European Arrest Warrant against him issued by Supreme Court judge Pablo Llarena, has this Monday asked the Catalan Parliament's governing Bureau to allow him to delegate his vote. If they accept, it would make it easier for pro-independence parties to invest a new president of Catalonia.
The petition, filed this Monday, is signed by Comín as a member of ERC's parliamentary group.
The deputy argues that his current situation "incapacitates" him from attending plenary sessions in the Parliament. He asks, therefore, to delegate his vote to the group's spokesperson, Sergi Sabrià, "for the time [this situation] may last".
If the Bureau, which the pro-independence parties have a majority on, accept the request, as they accepted a similar request from president Carles Puigdemont, JxCat and ERC would then have enough votes to invest a new president without needing CUP's support.
