A coronavirus outbreak has been reported in a nursing home in Lleida, in the interior of Catalonia. Centred on the Castrillón senior citizens' residence, it has left 18 people infected with Covid-19: 13 residents and 5 employees.
The Catalan health ministry has confirmed this new development to the newspaper Segre, which reported that on June 17th, several people with symptoms were detected at the home. The health service carried out PCR tests at the care centre to detect possible cases and isolate them.
Since then, according to the newspaper, no new cases have been detected in the residence, which has a capacity to care for 43 senior citizens. At the moment, 4 people have been admitted to hospital.
The director of the home, Carme García Castrillón, made it clear that this was not a "resurgence" as there had been no cases of coronavirus at the residence until now.
Catalan health ministry sources told ElNacional.cat that they do not believe this outbreak is connected to the new cases reported on Monday in the neighbouring counties of the Franja de Ponent, in Huesca province.
