A panel of judges from the High Court of Justice of Catalonia has dismissed the appeal submitted by Catalan government lawyers against the order that president Torra has to remove the banner with a yellow ribbon on it from the government palace's balcony.
The appeal had been submitted yesterday afternoon, shortly before the deadline the court had set for him to remove the banner. Today, they find there is no reason to agree to suspend the cautionary measure by which they originally ordered him to remove the banner. "Consequently", they write, "that agreed in the order pronounced on 19th September 2019 shall have to be complied with".
The court also notes that since that previous ruling, a Spanish general election has formally been called for 10th November, and that the law is clear on what symbols can be displayed on public buildings during such times.
The government now has five days in which it can present a new appeal, the decision upon which would be final.
