News channel RT has broadcast a devastating report from Aliana Nieves on the current political and legal landscape in Spain, saying that it might be the country where heaven and earth meet, but "nothing is capable of modifying the status quo". It seems that Nieves will not be the journalist who wins the 12,000€ offered by the foreign ministry for the international correspondent who does the most to improve Spain's image.
The journalists recalls the exile of Catalan president Carles Puigdemont, the exile and imprisonment of his cabinet, the rapper Valtonyc and the actor Willy Toledo and notes that Spanish public television staff "dress in black every Friday in protest against manipulation" of news. She also describes the criticism from UN rapporteur David Kaye of the charges of rebellion against Catalan politicians, calling for the right to protest to be protected.
She also jokes that two of the country's main parties (PP and Cs) seem to be competing to see "who feels proudest to be Spanish", whilst Podemos debates "on the chalet [which cost] more than half a million euros which its leaders have bought".
In conclusion, she says, "justice has fled Spain".
