European channel Euronews has listed Catalonia among the great headaches this year for the president of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, alongside Brexit and the trade war with the USA.
In a report entitled "Brexit, Catalonia and trade war: 1 year with Juncker", the German-language version of Euronews has reviewed the 12 months since the European leader's last state of the union address. "The president of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, has had a year full of difficult negotiations since his last state of the union speech on 13th September 2017". "The following day, he gave an interview to Euronews, just days before the controversial independence referendum. The conflict over Catalan independence couldn't have been more present," they continue.
The report says that "another hot topic he had to deal with" were the Brexit negotiations. This got even more tricky, they write, when details emerged of discrete meetings he'd held with prime minister Theresa May.
The final part of their headline was the trade war with the USA which "occupied a large part of his agenda".
