'Game of Thrones: the Touring Exhibition', organised by HBO Global Licensing, events provider GES and local promoters Sold Out and Encore, will inaugurate the exhibition this Saturday at Barcelona's Maritime Museum, to run until 7th January. This is the exhibition's first stop on its world tour. The interactive experience covers more than 1000 square metres and offers visitors the possibility to see props, costumes and set decorations from HBO's successful show.
Robin Stapley, vice-president of Design and Creative at GES, said, in an interview with ACN (Catalan News Agency), that the exhibition will not just appeal to fans, but also the general public, who will be able to see the small details that are not always visible on the screen, but which gain in importance as displayed. Two of the actors that have appeared in the series, Tom Wlaschiha and Ian Beattie, attended today's presentation.
Stapley said that the most interesting part of the exhibition is the costumes, weapons and props of all types used by the actors in the series' seven seasons. 'Game of Thrones: the Touring Exhibition' will allow fans from around the world to experience the art and submerge themselves in the artistic universe of 'Game of Thrones' in the largest public exhibition so far. As explained by the organisers, this will be made possible thanks to a unique combination of immersive environments, interactive spaces and multimedia content.
Costumes, props, weapons and armour
A number of themed areas represent the variety of locations in the series, displaying costumes, props, weapons and armour in an immersive environment: the wintry landscapes of the North, the tree-lined pathway of the Kingsroad, the regal settings of King’s Landing, the conquered city of Meereen with its garrisons of Unsullied warriors and the loyalists of House Targaryen, the House of Black and White, the home of the Night’s Watch: Castle Black, the frozen lands Beyond the Wall and, as the centrepiece, the iconic Iron Throne Room.
Among the many objects on display are the costumes of Arya Stark and Sandor Clegane, 'the Hound'; Needle, Arya Stark's sword; Margaery Tyrell's wedding dress and the opulent wedding suit of Joffrey Baratheon; Widow's Wail, Joffrey Baratheon's Valyrian steel longsword; the litter used to carry Joffrey Baratheon in his parade through King's Landing; the costumes of Stannis Baratheon and the red priestess Melisandre; Ellaria Sand's luxurious silk dress, the leather armour worn by Oberyn Martell and Shireen Baratheon's toy stag that Ser Davos carved for her.
Stapley's favourite area is the one dedicated to the Targaryens, which includes a "representation" of all the departments. He invites the Catalan public and tourists to take advantage of the "incredible opportunity" to visit the exhibition, an invitation especially extended to fans, to enjoy the work of the whole team that has been dedicated for years to creating the world of 'Game of Thrones'.
