The German government has released a statement this Friday, via spokesperson Steffen Seibert, saying that "the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Spain are and remain inviolable". As such, they do not recognise the Catalan Parliament's unilateral declaration of independence.
They also give their explicit support to the "clear posture" of the Spanish prime minister, Mariano Rajoy, to "guarantee and recover constitutional order".
The statement opens describing their "concern" for the "new intensification" of the situation in Catalonia and closes expressing the German government's hope that the parties concerned "will use all possibilities for dialogue and deescalation".
