Manchester City's coach, Pep Guardiola, has warned this Wednesday that the Catalan conflict won't be solved until the political prisoners are released. He made the comment during a Cruyff Foundation event in Barcelona.
"The situation isn't easy, but nothing will be solved until the prisoners return to their families. There are people who have spent more than two hundred days in prison for asking for people to vote. Someone needs to explain that to me," he said.
The former Barça coach said that if he had stayed in Spain, he would wear the symbol of the yellow loop to call for the prisoners' release. "I would have worn it, yes. Why can I wear it in England and not wear it here? People wear loops against Aids or against gender discrimination. It's not a political claim, it's for people who are in prison for asking for people to be allowed to vote. It could happen to us," he explained.
Asked if he would like Spain to win the next World Cup, Guardiola said that he would like it and that he would also like it if England or Germany won, the other countries where he has coached. "I also have many good friends in Germany, at Bayern Munich. I'm a fan of my friends' teams and in the Spanish national team I have some friends I love a lot, a lot," he replied.
