Pep Guardiola isn't staying away from Catalan and Spanish politics during his holidays. During the Legends Trophy golf tournament being held at PGA Catalonia Resort, Manchester City's manager has said, referring to the new Spanish prime minister, that "Sánchez will receive Torra and that's a good step".
The Catalan coach added, on the topic of the political prisoners, that "maybe they won't be moved closer, but taken out [of jail]. There are people put in prison without being tried". He continued that "there are people in prison for getting on a car, and one of their children, less than a year old, has already travelled 50,000km".
Ending with his political comments, he said that "the person who calls elections is the prime minister of Spain. There are parties who want to vote today and others tomorrow. Whenever it is, we Spaniards will vote." But he also spoke about football.
Football, the market and managers
About Zinedine Zidane and him leaving Real Madrid, he said that "not only do coaches get fatigued, players do too, presidents. There are great demands in all senses. He will have been through situations which he won't have liked". He also added that he greatly admires the French manager and that "he was one of my idols when he was playing and he's done very well as a coach".
On the topic of Neymar, he confirmed that "neither will I go to PSG, nor will he come to City. To Madrid? As far as I know, leaving Paris isn't easy, although everything is possible in football". No comment on Yaya Touré insinuating that he's racist. As for Leroy Sané being left out of Germany's team for the World Cup, he said that: "giving my opinion wouldn't be to put into doubt what he did this season. I very much respect the German selector, who I know. He saw things and it will be up to the player to rest to be on top form next season".
Ending sending thoughts back to his time at Barça, he praised Xavi Hernández, predicting he has a future as a manager. "Everyone who gets their card as a coach is ready. Hopefully I'll meet him one day on the benches."
