After Barça's 3-0 win against Las Palmas in La Liga today, Gerard Piqué appeared in the press area to give his opinion on today's events in Catalonia. The centre-back, who couldn't hold back his tears, said that today has been "the worst experience of my life".
"The pictures speak for themselves, everyone has seen them and there have to be consequences", said Piqué, very emotional about the police brutality seen in Catalonia throughout the day. "We've spent years peacefully demonstrating and today the [Spanish National] Police and the Civil Guard have come to act as they have done. I believe that there are a lot of people in Spain that are very against what has happened".
He admitted, however, that he is "more proud than ever of a country that despite the violence has been more peaceful than ever". He took advantage of the occasion to criticise the Spanish government: "we're in the hands of a president that has the level he has and doesn't even know how to speak English".
