The president of the Executive Council of Corsica, Gilles Simeoni, has said that "rejecting the imprisonment and the exile hitting elected officials and citizens in Catalonia for political reasons is a democratic issue which concerns the whole of Europe".
Writing on Twitter, he said that the 52 French National Assembly delegates who signed a letter on the matter yesterday, including those from his own party, "bring honour to their parliamentary duty".

The signatories, who include members of five different parliamentary groups, expressed their "concern and disapproval in the face of that which it seems to us does harm to fundamental freedoms and the exercise of democracy".
