Carles Puigdemont has this Thursday met his immediate predecessor as Catalan president, Artur Mas, in Berlin to discuss the political and legal situation of Catalonia, according to sources with knowledge of the meeting. Their party, PDeCAT, has released a photograph from the meeting on social media alongside a note that it's their first since Puigdemont left Neumünster prison.
Puigdemont was arrested by German police following the arrest warrant issued by a Spanish court. After being held in prison for two weeks, a German court released him on bail whilst judges evaluate his extradition, having discounted the charge of rebellion.
Translation: In Germany, I've seen president Carles Puigdemont strong, calm and hopeful. This Sunday we have an engagement to call for the release of the political prisoners, the return of the exiles, the end of the persecution and repression, commitment to democracy and love of freedom.
By an engagement on Sunday, president Mas is referring to a planned demonstration in Barcelona (in Catalan).
