Spain's Attorney General has announced that the Public Prosecutors' Office will take action against the Catalan government and the Board of the Catalan Parliament from this Monday, sources tell El Nacional.
The Public Prosecutors have been preparing a lawsuit for the crime of rebellion, punishable by thirty years in prison, against the Catalan Parliament, Carles Puigdemont, in expectation of a possible declaration of independence. Now, however, that the measure has been officially passed by the Parliament, they are working to expand the charges to "all" those who enabled the alleged crime.
As such, the lawsuit will be directed at, at least, the members of the Catalan government and Board of the Parliament who allowed the motion which led to the declaration to move forward and be voted on, according to sources from the Public Prosecutors' Office.
Currently, the Attorney General hasn't decided which court the complaint will be presented to. This will depend on what protection those cited are offered by parliamentary privilege and the different scenarios that open up with the application of article 155 of the Spanish Constitution.
