Flemish nationalists want to be able to invite president Carles Puigdemont to the Belgian Parliament. The N-VA party, the largest in the lower chamber, wants to be able to use a room in the Parliament building to organise a talk with Puigdemont. The party have filed a request in the chamber to that effect. The application will be analysed this Wednesday by the Conference of Presidents.
Any invitation for Puigdemont has to be authorised by a consensus of the Conference of Presidents, which includes the other parties. Specifically, it comprises the chamber's president and vice-president, former presidents who are still members of the Parliament and the president and one other member of each parliamentary party. The government minister responsible for relations with the Parliament also attends meetings.
If the invitation is approved, the Catalan president will visit on Tuesday 27th February at 11am. According to the document N-VA filed with the Parliament, their intention is to "use a room in the Congress to inform on the situation in Catalonia". The event's organiser, who will speak alongside Puigdemont, is MP Peter Lyukx.
