Some 3.03 million passengers travelled through Barcelona-El Prat airport this February, an 8.3% increase on the same month last year. This implies a historic record, the first time that Barcelona's airport has seen more than 3 million passenger in the second month of the year. In fact, so far this year, the airport has totalled over six million travellers (6,092,368), 8.7% more than the first two months of 2017.
National flights, greatest growth
Passenger numbers for national flights are up 10% and for international flights up 7.6%. As for operations, there were 21,348 take-offs and landings in February, 5.8% more than last year, with a 7.2% increase for international flights specifically. So far this year, there have been more than 43,000 operations, a 6.6% increase. As for cargo, growth continued in February (10.5%) to 11,799 metric tonnes (11,600 Imperial long tons, 13,000 US long tons). Between January and February more than 24,000 tonnes have been transported, 14.5% more than last year.
Despite the great increase, Barcelona-El Prat grew less than Madrid-Barajas in February. The latter airport had 9.3% more passengers with respect to the same month last year.
