Catalan Mossos d'Esquadra police have charged against protesters for a third consecutive evening in Barcelona. Riot officers have taken action against demonstrators protesting against the sentences announced on Monday and calling for the resignation of Catalan interior minister Miquel Buch given the tactics used by police over the last two days.
The tensions started today outside Buch's own department. The building was protected by rows of barriers which the protesters starting throwing over shortly after arriving. After having toilet paper and other objects thrown at them, the police charged and started firing foam bullets. One of those hit by these was an El Nacional photojournalist, wearing her press armband.
From there, things started getting out of control, with demonstrators lighting fires in the middle of the streets. The flames have damaged at least six cars and many more large rubbish buns.
