Going to prison is a luxury. At least, that's how it seems to Spain's Foreign Affairs minister, Alfonso Dastis, who said this Friday that the prison to which Catalan president Carles Puigdemont "will be sent to (...) when he comes" to Spain "includes all the comforts which, not only prisoners, but many people would like to enjoy".
Dastis' comment came in a press conference alongside his Saudi counterpart, Adel al-Jubeir, after Belgian prosecutors asked the Interior minister about the conditions in Spanish prisons.
Without privileges
The minister appeared convinced that Belgium will not give Puigdemont any privileged treatment but didn't want to make any interpretation as to why prosecutors had asked such questions of Spain. In fact, he limited himself to setting them within the context of a legal process which he believes will end with Puigdemont being extradited to Spain.
"It's in this context that any investigation which enables the final result has to be placed or interpreted, which we understand is going to be the transfer of Mr Puigdemont to Spain," he said.
