US film director Spike Lee has expressed support for the independence of Catalonia. In an interview with pro-union El Español, he says he's "very" interested in the issue of Catalonia and asks "when is it going to be solved?".
Spike Lee was in Barcelona, promoting his latest film, BlacKkKlansman, which has just been released in Spain under the name Infiltrado en el KKKlan. The film is a dark comedy loosely based on real events. When the journalist interviewing Lee asks him if he likes Barcelona, the director replies that he does "a lot" and immediately asks about the independence issue.
"Independence. Independence for Catalonia, independence for Puerto Rico", he responds when asked for his opinion on the matter. Spike Lee has been outspoken politically, especially the issue of racism, both in his work and in public.
