The party currently in government in Madrid, PSOE, continues to do gain support according to CIS (Centre of Sociological Research). This October, they are reported as having 31.6% of the intended vote, a slight increase with respect to CIS's findings in September which put them on 30.5%. The most noteworthy result, however, is found immediately behind PSOE: Ciudadanos in second place, pushing PP into third.
Albert Rivera's party was on 19.6% in September; now they're up to 21%. As a consequence, Pablo Casado's party has dropped to this place, their vote going from 20.8% to 18.2%.
Podemos stays in fourth place, also rising slightly to 17.3% from the 16.1% it had in September.
The research for this new CIS barometer was conducted between the 1st and 9th of this month, coinciding with the controversies which affected a number of the members of Sánchez's government, negotiations with Podemos over the budget and the anniversary of the Catalan independence referendum.
As for Casado, he's now feeling the effects of his harsh rhetoric. By the time of the last poll he'd been PP's leader for too short a time for it to have a notable effect.
ERC and PDeCAT
As for the Catalan parties, PDeCAT would lose support and drop from 1.9% last time to 1.4%. On the other hand, ERC would gain two tenths of a point to 4.3%.
CIS also asked respondents to evaluate political leaders. Without reaching 5 out of 10, Sánchez beats Casado and Rivera, whose scores go down. The best result, however, goes to Valencian politician Joan Baldoví (Compromís): 4.75%.
In Catalonia, PDeCAT spokesperson Carles Campuzano gets 3.5, and Joan Tardà (ERC), 3.12.
