ERC are predicted to win in Catalonia in the upcoming Spanish general election, according to the first political opinion survey of the year from the Catalan government's Centre d'Estudis d'Opinió (Centre for Opinion Studies). The pro-independence party, with imprisoned Oriol Junqueras heading their candidacy, would see their current 9 seats grow to 14-15. PSC meanwhile, with current Spanish territorial minister Meritxell Batet, would come second with 11-13. They had 7 in 2016. ERC would earn 24.5% of the vote, ahead of PSC's 23.7%.
En Comú-Podem, who won in Catalonia in the last Spanish general election, would fall from 12 deputies to 7-9 if the forecast pans out. Junts per Catalunya with Jordi Sànchez, also in prison, and former Catalan culture minister Laura Borràs would get 12.1% of the vote and 5-7 seats, down from the 8 they won in 2016.
Inés Arrimadas' jump to Madrid doesn't do much for Ciudadanos who would either keep their current 5 deputies or gain one. PP, meanwhile, would see its slump in Catalonia continue with a fall from 6 seats last time to an estimated 2 at the end of this month.
The new Front Republicà coalition is hovering on the edge, today's results saying it could get either 1 or 0 seats. Far-right party Vox, which is seeing strong growth elsewhere in Spain, doesn't even appear as a separate party in the results and wouldn't earn any seats.
