The Swedish Foreign Affairs minister, Margot Wallström, has said this Monday that "political dialogue" is needed with Catalonia and that she is hopefully the conflict will be solved. Asked about the letter sent by Catalan president Carles Puigdemont to prime minister Mariano Rajoy, Wallström said it has a "conciliatory tone" and shows willingness to negotiate.
The minister wondered whether this could be the first step to "improve the autonomy of Catalonia". She was speaking from Luxembourg, where her German counterpart, Sigmar Gabriel, also spoke, also supporting dialogue between Spain and Catalonia.
