Around a hundred people gathered this afternoon in front of the Catalan Economy ministry in Barcelona to hang up yellow loops. Yellow, especially in the form of a loop. has become the symbol of support for the Catalan political prisoners. The action was organised by the Committees for Defence of the Republic. Pro-Spain groups called people to gather at the same time at the same place to remove the loops as they were put in place.
Although the pro-union group was very small, around a dozen people, they managed to remove almost all the loops which had been hung along Travessera de Gràcia.
Moments of tension were seen between the two groups. Despite strong police presence, some demonstrators had verbal confrontations. Only one instance went further when a man told police he had been threatened by someone with the small knife they were using to cut and remove the loops.
By around 9pm, the demonstrators had all left, leaving almost no loops behind.
