US heavy metal band A Sound of Thunder has confirmed that they will take part in the concert in support of the release of the political prisoners which ANC (Catalan National Assembly) is organising for 2nd December at the Lluís Companys Olympics Stadium.
The band has released a metal adaptation of the Catalan anthem, Els Segadors, with lyrics, mostly in English, inspired by the original.
The group's Catalonia connection is through its singer, Nina Osegueda, whose mother emigrated to the USA during the Franco dictatorship. They released their version of the anthem on 3rd October this year after seeing the violence during the referendum two days earlier. Nina herself posted a video blog the following day explaining that they'd been working on the song for two years, planning to include it on their next album, but brought its release forward after hearing the news of people being hurt during the vote. On that topic in the video, she says she hopes that "everyone is safe (...) and that this whole thing ends peacefully".
As well as A Sound of Thunder, a wide variety of Catalan artists are scheduled to play on Sunday including Ramon Mirabet, Cesk Freixas, l’Orfeó català, Always Drinking Marching Band, La Banda Impossible, Elèctrica Dharma, Els Catarres, Doctor Prats, Oques Grasses, Judit Nedderman, Buhos and Els Amics de les Arts.
