The US consul general to Barcelona, Robert Riley, met this morning with Catalan president Quim Torra at the government palace. The meeting comes four days before the Diada, Catalonia's national day.
The consulate published a tweet in Catalan after the meeting, saying it was part of the "institutional visits to the authorities" of their consular district: Catalonia, Aragon and Andorra.
The president also tweeted about the meeting: "Dear consul general, [it was] a pleasure to greet you and to have the opportunity to ratify our long history of diplomatic relations which originate with the creation of the first American consulate in 1797, one of the oldest in the world".
