For 89 nights in a row, Barcelona's avinguda Meridiana has been blocked by Catalan protesters. Hundreds of pro-independence demonstrators attended one of the tensest nights seen yet to oppose the counter-protest organised by far-right Spanish groups.
The Mossos d'Esquadra, Catalan police, separated the two rallies by a police cordon to avoid incidents. Then, some of the independence supporters burnt Spanish flags, whilst waving their own estelades and shouting anti-fascist slogans.
On the other hand, the pro-union demonstrators had their own Spanish flags and chanted slogans in favour of preventing the roadblock.
