This morning, Spain's Civil Guard arrested nine Catalan independence activists in searches in several towns and villages in Barcelona province. One of the arrests took place in the town of Cerdanyola, near Barcelona. The gendarmerie spent seven hours searching a flat at number 33, avinguda Canaletes, after which they took away one person. By that point, a group had gathered outside to support the detainee and boo the officers as they left.
Waving estelada "starred" pro-independence flags, the protesters booed the gendarmes as they drove off, and chanted no estàs sol ("you're not alone") to the person arrested. Sources say the detainees are suspected of terrorism and rebellion and of preparing explosive devices. Of the nine arrested, so far two have been released; five of the others are being taken to Madrid where they will appear in court tomorrow.
