According to Barcelona's Urban Guard, there were more than half a million of them. Today, protesters again turned out in force in Catalonia to protest the sentences announced on Monday by Spain's Supreme Court. This afternoon, they gathered on the city's Passeig de Gràcia, formally for the general strike called for today by two unions.
The demonstration, under the slogan "for rights and freedoms, general strike", came just hours after the "Marches for Liberty" organised by ANC and Òmnium arrived in the city. Those marches had seen thousands of people spend three days walking from around Catalonia to the capital.
