Protecció Civil, the Catalan Civil Protection agency, has activated a warning for high temperatures this Sunday in certain areas of Catalonia, specifically the counties of Empordà and La Selva in the north, towards the French border.
As such the agency, part of the Catalan interior ministry, recommends people in the affected areas take care tomorrow. The high temperatures come as part of a heat wave set to stretch into next week.
The Catalan Meteorologic Service has informed of the arrival of a mass of hot air coming from the north of Africa set to sit over a good portion of the western Mediterranean next week. Temperatures will rise during this bank holiday weekend for the festival of Sant Joan on Monday, to a high point on Tuesday. Those maximums could reach as high as between 35 and 38 degrees Celsius (95-100ºF) in Ponent and Terres de l'Ebre.
