Tsunami Democràtic ("democratic tsunami"), the new Catalan protest initiative created to respond to the imminently-expected Supreme Court verdicts on 12 pro-independence leaders, has passed 60,000 sign-ups to its account on the Telegram messaging application. The protest platform, born as recently as September 2nd with the proposition of using "non-violence and civil disobedience as transformative strategies" thus confirms its rapid growth in social media followers in the final days before the arrival of the Supreme Court verdicts, almost certain to be made public before October 15th.
On Twitter, Tsunami Democràtic already has more than 50,000 followers, as well as over 15,000 on Instagram, very high figures for accounts that were only opened a few weeks ago. Even so, the platform is calling for more and more people to sign up for information from the platform "so that the response arrives everywhere."
Over the weekend, the platform has extended into Catalan universities with a call "to empty the classrooms in order to fill the streets on the day of the verdicts." Thirteen different protest meeting points have been scheduled in different campuses to "lead the mobilization in response [to the verdicts]".
Tsunami Democràtic assures that everything is ready for when the court decisions are given on the Catalan political prisoners accused of rebellion for their roles in the 2017 referendum. "With banners and tweets alone, it won't happen", but rather through "mass civil disobedience to force Spain to resolve the conflict democratically," they emphasize.
