Barcelona's administrative square Plaça Sant Jaume in Barcelona, filled to capacity, and with a high proportion of Catalan independence supporters, maintained a heavy booing of Ada Colau as the crowd waited for the constitution of the new city council, in which the incumbent BComú mayor Colau was expected to be returned to power, thanks to the votes of Manuel Valls's candidacy (Ciudadanos party). At 4:15 pm, the mayor had not yet arrived, but the heckling didn't let up.
Some of those present showed their discontent with the incumbent mayor with chants of "traitor", as well as "Colau is a fraud." There were also placards supporting jailed former Catalan minister and new councillor Quim Forn, present at the council session. Further chants called for unity amongst the independence movement.
