The explicit support that the founder of Wikileaks, Julian Assange, has been showing in recent days for the Catalan independence process has worried the Spanish press, who have strived hard to find an explanation that, as required, has to be sinister and murky, and also implicate various world leaders.
Finally, it has been El confidencial that has unlocked a supposed conspiracy of planetary proportions to explain the "conversion" of Assange into a pro-independence activist, all based on a triangle that has at its three vertices the leaders of a world plot aimed at destroying Spain: the Russian president, Vladimir Putin; the United States president, Donald Trump; and the Catalan president, Carles Puigdemont. In the middle, Russian diplomats, US congressmen and US "lobbies", and the Catalan government's efforts to internationalise the process.
Given the fact that any support from Assange, being such a recognised opinion-maker, is not, and can't possibly be free, the aforementioned media has concluded that it has all come from a meeting that took place last 16th August - the day before the deadly attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils - between Assange and the American congressman, Dana Rohrabacher, a politician very close to US president Donald Trump and ... one of two congressmen who visited Catalonia in April, holding meetings with president Carles Puigdemont and the president of the Catalan Parliament, Carme Forcadell, but also with the delegate of the Spanish government, Enric Millo, accompanied by the top brass of the Spanish National Police in Catalonia.
Nights of alcohol and wrestling
Rohrabacher, besides being a supposed supporter of Catalanism, could also be a double or triple agent, who might serve the interests of Vladimir Putin, especially since they met many years ago, during a long night with excess alcohol and wrestling, according to some information. Added to all this are the suspicions that the congressman might have been implicated in another shady affair - where, at least for now, there's no trace of Catalan - 'Russiagate', that's to say the supposed case of leaked information from Russia to favour the election campaign of Trump, that eventually led him into the White House.
And to round it off, the congressman might have shared a murky relationship with Russiagate and the American "lobby", SGR Government, which, in turn, would have been hired by the Catalan government in August, within its policy of internationalising the independent process.
All these elements lead to the obvious conclusion that might explain everything: the independence of Catalonia is a strategic objective of Putin's Russia, probably with the approval of Trump, and the fact that the ambassador of Russia to the UN mentioned, in 2014, the name of Catalonia at the time of justifying the annexation of Crimea, is clear proof of it all.
And therefore, following this conspiracy theory, Assange is just another piece in an enormous confabulation that aims to provoke world destabilization based upon the independence of Catalonia ... a possibility that the same founder of Wikileaks has ridiculed.
And looking at it, all the pieces fit perfectly, as they do with all puzzles, if they are cut to measure.
