The Catalan president-in-exile, Carles Puigdemont, has arrived at the town hall of Elna (Northern Catalonia) to deliver the address at which he will announce whether he will present his candidacy for the presidency of the Generalitat of Catalonia. Puigdemont arrived accompanied by his wife, Marcela Topor, and was received by former minister Lluís Puig and the mayor of Elna, Nicolás Garcia. Also there was Jami Matamala, a friend of the president and businessman who accompanied him when he had to go into exile. There are 1,400 people registered to attend Puigdemont's event and most of them have been waiting for him at the door of the venue. The MEP was also greeted with shouts of "Puigdemont, our president" and "Independence".

In addition to the thousand attendees, the conference has gathered a great deal of media attention: there are more than seventy accredited journalists and more than 40 media (of which six are international). Before Puigdemont's speech, a welcoming speech by the mayor of Elna, Nicolás Garcia, is planned.
