The former Tarragona city councillor and current Catalan MP, Laia Estrada, will be the head of the list of the Popular Unity Candidacy (CUP) in the Catalan election on May 12th, as Ara reported and ElNacional.cat has confirmed. The membership of the radical-left pro-independence party decided on Estrada as their candidate in an internal consultation that began on Sunday at noon and ended this Monday at 12 noon. The list headed by Laia Estrada obtained 63% of the votes, thus gaining the party approval over the other list headed by Laure Vega in a consultation in which 863 people participated.

Estrada's list is, in fact, accompanied by Laure Vega, of Sant Boi de Llobregat, also a current MP who had replaced former candidate Dolors Sabater in Parliament; as well as Pilar Castillejo, former Ripollet councillor and former MP, and the current Catalan deputy Xavier Pellicer. The other list was headed by Vega, together with Pellicer, Castillejo and the former Arran spokesperson Mar Ampurdanès. The candidacy was to be decided this Saturday, but after a failure to reach a consensus candidacy, the membership was called to vote on the two options.
