The lawyers acting for the Catalan political prisoners and exiled leaders facing extradition claims, Ben Emmerson and Gonzalo Boye, used Twitter to show their admiration for the massive demonstration held on Sunday in Barcelona. Emmerson in particular was overflowing in his praise, declaring that he had never witnessed such an "impressive and peaceful" display of "people power":
This is the most impressive and peaceful show of people power I have ever witnessed. Barcelona is full to bursting point as the demonstration gets underway. #FreePoliticalPrisoners pic.twitter.com/CJ3lX2laz2

Meanwhile, Gonzalo Boye, lawyer of Catalan ministers Toni Comín and Meritxell Serret, both exiled in Belgium, also took to Twitter to give his reaction: "This is not something you can resolve with the criminal code", attaching a link to an aerial view of Sunday's demonstration, which according to city police attracted 350,000 people.
Over recent years, the Catalan independence movement has been noted for its ability to attract massive, impeccably-behaved crowds at demonstrations calling for a referendum on the independence question.
