A pensioner from Vigo, in Galicia, is suing exiled Catalan president Carles Puigdemont and his ministers. The retired man considers that the Catalan government "attacked the honour of Spain" and is claiming 250 million euros from them for moral damages. The plaintiff proposes that this sum should be awarded to "any party, organization or entity that fights for the unity of Spain."
The civil case, dated the 17th October, was formal presented to a court in Las Palmas (Canary Islands), where the Galician man currently lives. According to the newspaper Faro de Vigo, the pensioner's lawyer has recognized that this is "an atypical suit". While waiting to find out whether the court will formally accept the case or not , the lawyer has affirmed that "this is the first time that somebody has lodged a lawsuit to defend the honour of a whole country".
