Elements of the Spanish far right are mobilizing. Faced with the real possibility that the Socialist (PSOE) leader Pedro Sánchez will manage to gather the support he needs to continue as Spanish prime minister for four more years, the most extreme elements of Spanish nationalism are starting to consider ways of avoiding it. The amnesty agreement being negotiated by Together for Catalonia (Junts) and the PSOE has already caused the People's Party to organize demonstrations across Spain this coming Sunday, while the eight conservative members of the General Council of the Judiciary have requested the holding of an extraordinary plenary to show the body's rejection of this possible measure of grace. The dreamed-of blockade of the investiture of Sánchez as leader of a new government has also caused movements among the most ultra sectors of españolismo, and it is with this type of intention that a collective under the name of Civil Action has decided to visit military barracks throughout Spain circulating a letter calling for nothing less than a coup d'état.
The letter, entitled 'Letter from the people to the armed forces and security forces', requests, on behalf of Spanish society, "a response from the Spanish Army, the Civil Guard and the National Police ". The text emphasizes "the extreme gravity of the situation" being experienced in the country. "The political action, abject and genocidal, that is being carried out by the established power, is tipping us into an unprecedented disaster. The partitocracy is breaking apart our homeland through separatism, political sell-outs and the loss of national sovereignty", continues the letter, defining the Catalan independence movement and the breakdown of Spanish unity as key concerns of this ultra group. In no case is the name of Pedro Sánchez explicitly mentioned, but the choice of the moment for this strategy is not accidental.
The promoters also ask the armed forces and police bodies to "defend civil society and not the state". "The people, whom you once swore to defend above all else, are impatiently waiting for you to act according to the dictates of your conscience and not according to obedience to political power and the mandate of higher orders," it states. The letter continues to ask for "help" from the army, seeking its "support" in "the opening of a period of Constituent Liberty, in which the Spanish people, from the bottom up, decide on their future, and can control and choose well-prepared people". "This process of change, above all, must be able to take place amid freedom, peace and harmony; in which all Spaniards can exercise the right to express themselves democratically in successive referendums that are held cleanly and with full guarantees", it adds, in a reference that clearly recalls a totalitarian regime, before concluding with a direct message. "Please help us! Give us a signal of support!".
The instructions for distributing the letter
The circulation of the letter began this Monday, November 6th, and will last "several days", according to a message that has been circulated among the members of the Civil Action organization. The ultras will go in pairs to the different military barracks throughout the Spanish state, with the aim of "each provincial group being responsible for delivering the document to all the barracks in their province to cover the entire national territory in one week". In addition, members visiting military sites have been asked to record the delivery of the letter and take photographs of the moment.
