The general secretary of Together for Catalonia (Junts), Jordi Turull, is in stable condition after having undergone a second operation arising from the heart attack he suffered two days ago. This second operation, after the catheterization performed on him on Monday, "is within the plan" and has not meant any additional complications for his state of health, sources close to the Catalan political leader told EFE. Turull, 57 years old, was admitted to Bellvitge Hospital on Monday after suffering a heart attack while participating in some party work sessions in the Baix Llobregat area of metropolitan Barcelona.
Throughout Monday morning, Turull had been holding meetings in different places related to his party work and, at the time he began to feel unwell, he was in Sant Feliu de Llobregat. In the early afternoon, he was admitted to the hospital, where he underwent a catheterization, an operation that was "successful", as Junts reported in a statement. After the intervention, he was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and it was reported that the politician was "stable" and "starting his recovery process". On Tuesday, there was no change and ElNacional.cat was able to confirm that the evolution of the politician continued on the right track.
Messages of support
The Junts general secretary, who leads the pro-independence party's organizational structure alongside president Laura Borràs, received immediate messages of support from many numerous political leaders and parties following the medical emergency on Monday afternoon. The Catalan president-in-exile and Junts founder, Carles Puigdemont, conveyed "all affection and support", accompanied by the "wish for a full recovery". In fact, the avalanche of messages of solidarity was something that Puigdemont highlighted: "It is gratifying the number of people, good people, who send their best wishes to our general secretary". The president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonès, in a message on X: "Our thoughts are with Jordi Turull, wishing him a good and speedy recovery." Aragonès sent a "very big hug" to the leader's family. Also from the Republican Left, its leader, Oriol Junqueras - with whom Turull shared years in prison - explained that he had gone to the hospital to express to the family of the Junts general secretary his best "wishes for his recovery". The head of the Catalan opposition, Salvador Illa, was one of the first to react and to detail that he had conveyed to the leadership of Junts "the desire for a speedy recovery of its general secretary" and wanted to add his own message of support.
